lovebug Blanket
a fun, retro themed blanket
Blanket in the photos was knitted by Margaret Holzmann
Vintage Volkswagon bugs with hearts and flowers are fun to knit in a multitude of colors
This colorful blanket was designed to celebrate the time when these iconic cars were found everywhere because they were affordable to buy and drive. They were one of the few small cars available in the 60’s and 70’s.
Features yarn: Malabrigo Rios, superwash (worsted)
Techniques
The knit version is worked in garter stitch blocks that use shaping, a bit of intarsia, short rows, and some pick up and knit. Flowers and hearts are knitted separately and tacked on to the front of the blanket. The white “sashing” between blocks is knitted so there is no sewing in this blanket other than tacking the flower and hearts to the front. The pattern provides access to all my technique videos, and specific videos for some of the embellishments.
The pattern includes instructions for a pillow cover and wearable top.
Buy the Pattern: The pattern is available only in the Safe at Home book. In this book you will find many other blankets that celebrate our favorite things.
