I had a hard time deciding on the color theme for this blanket. The close contender was to use dark gray, burgundy, red and coral pink.
This design would also look interesting worked in a rainbow of alternating stripes against a white or black background striping, working each color for one or two repeats before changing.
This design is expressed in the delicious and extensive colors of Cascade Yarns 128, a superwash bulky. This blanket is worked from outside-in on long circular needles.
Inspiration
The inspiration for this blanket is the many lovely and cherished chevron blankets that my Mom, Betty Smith, has made for family members over the 75 years that she has been a knitter. In this design, we work from the outside-in to make a medallion.
I have been knitting since I was 10 years old, taught patiently by my mom. During my teenage years I often talked her into buying large amounts of yarn for blanket projects that I never finished, and in the course of time, my Mom patiently used up all those yarns in her “ripple” afghans as we refer to them. And that has been a life-long theme in our relationship that she has always there to help me out, or clean up a mess I made, whether big or small. I love you Mom!
