ribbons Blanket
Knit Blanket Pattern
Simple triangles and squares are artfully arranged to create the illusion of intertwined ribbons.
This is one of 30 blankets in the Geometric Knit Blankets book.
Alternate Color Designs for ribbons blanket
To experiment with colors for this blanket, see the the Supplemental Content (access code at end of book) to download a coloring page to experiment with your own color ideas.
The design for this blanket calls for a high contrast background color, which is the sample it white. Foreground colors require a light and dark of two different hues (blues and greens in the sample), a contrasting color (yellow in the sample), and a neutral (tan in the sample).
Ribbons is worked in lovely and coordinating colors from the Ella Rae Superwash Classic. This blanket is worked in blocks that are sewn together.
Inspiration
I have seen many examples of this type of design in quilts. The original pattern is called, “Storm at Sea” and I am still trying to determine the name of the designer. There are 3 different “blocks” in this design. Shapes in the quilt are colored to emphasize specific paths through the quilt. The monotone quilt below is the same block arrangement with fewer colors which emphasizes the smaller elements of the design; the four-point stars and circles.
Below, the colors are chosen to emphasize diagonal ribbons. This one really appeals to me! You can make this from the blocks specified in this knitting pattern, although the picture below has four repeats of the units, and my design has three. But if you work it in DK weight you could make 4 by 4 unit blanket of a reasonable size (not too big).
