Starry skies Blanket

Knit Blanket Pattern

A star-sudded sky on a dark night is the inspiration for the gem of a blanket.

This is one of 30 blankets in the Geometric Knit Blankets book.

Alternate Color Designs for shadow play blanket

To experiment with colors for this blanket, see the the Supplemental Content (access code at end of book) to download a coloring page to experiment with your own color ideas.

This design is very amenable to being worked from your stash in more or fewer colors. To bring out the stars more, the squares can be worked in a lighter color, or to bring out the squares more, work them in a variety of different colors. The white and black may also be reversed for a different look as shown in the quilt on the right-bottom of this page.

Starry Skies is worked one of my favorite premium acrylics, Lion Brand Heartland. This yarn is subtly marled, ultra-soft and pliable, and comes in gorgeous colors named after National Parks in the USA.

This blanket is worked in blocks and sewn. There are two options for working the center star.

Inspiration

The quilts pictured below are the inspiration for this blanket design. A 5-point star is difficult to knit, but the 4-point stars used in these quilts are very straight-forward.

See more designs from the book.

The Hot Cross Stars quilt from Cut Loose Press is the inspiration for this blanket design. It is difficult to make a 5-point star in knitting but this 4-point star with its “right triangles” is very easy to knit.
