Alternate Color Designs for sunburst blanket

To experiment with colors for this blanket, see the the Supplemental Content (access code at end of book) to download a coloring page to experiment with your own color ideas.

The Dresden Plate quilt, pictured at right, is almost always worked with a white background, so this is an option for this design. Also, there are many other colors in the Muir Woods line to use and all can be coordinated with the many solids in the Everyday lines.

Another option it to work from stash, cutting yarn between each “petal” of the dish to make color changes.

Sunburst is worked from two wonderful yarn lines from Premier Yarns: Muir Woods, a self-striping yarn inspired by colors found in nature, and 3 solids colors from their Everyday line.

This blanket is worked in 9 large blocks and sewn.

Inspiration

My grandmother, Jessie, made a Dresden Plate quilt for my parents. Because she used cut-up old clothes and then my mom washed it often in a washing machine, this treasure eventually deteriorated into tatters. But that blanket, which I loved, is the inspiration for this knitted version. I love how easy it is to create a multicolored sun with color-shifting yarns.
