A Geometric Blanket using a rainbow of Yarn Colors

This garter stitch based blanket was tested on Ravelry and its popularity with testers was the seed that grew a book of Geometric Knit Blankets. So many different looks are possible with this blanket depending on how color is used. Shown at left is the original sample worked in worsted.

Knit a Quilt?

The idea for this blanket came from a Victorian scrap quilt, which was a clever way to use up leftover bits and pieces. Can you see the relation to this blanket?

There are two construction methods for this blanket -- the traditional "sew" construction with individual blocks being sewn together, and a "no sew" method using modular construction. Both have their merits! Of the 30 blankets in the book, 10 have dual methods: “sew” and “no sew/modular.”

Alternate Color Designs for Prisma blanket

To experiment with colors for this blanket, see the the Supplemental Content (access code at end of book) to download a coloring page to experiment with your own color ideas. This blanket was designed and intended for sale on Ravelry. However, while I was knitting it, I thought of several other designs and that led to the idea of collecting them into a book.

Ravelry testers had several color designs to choose from, shown here. The design included in the book, called “rainbow,” was by far the favorite. Test knitters chose between the modular construction and knitting blocks and sewing.
